Munro, Naib star as Legends go on top of points table
Medium pacer Gulbadin Naib produced a masterclass picking up 4 pickets for only 12 runs to derail the run chase of Kandahar Knights and take Balkh Legends at the top of the points table. In what looked like on-track chase at the midway during the Balkh Legends, Gulbadin came to work his magic and chip in with wickets at the right time for his team.
Along with Naib, skipper Mohammad Nabi, Ben Laughlin and Aftab Alam also took 1 wicket apiece. Brendon McCullum and Paul Stirling gave the right start at the top, but wickets at regular intervals hurt their movement. Just when Brendon looked to come in touch, he fell down to Naib for 31, leaving too much for Asghar Afghan to do who made 32-ball 45 in the losing cause. A late surge from Amir Hamza Sayed Shirzad proved too little too late.
Earlier, a collective effort from the Balkh batters including 24-ball 46 from Colin Munro and patient 34 runs from Bopara helped reach a competitive total. With this result, Balkh has won both their matches while Kandahar has yet to score a point after two outings.
Brief scores: Balkh Legends 165 for five in 20 overs (Colin Munro 46, Ravi Bopara 34; Amir Hamza 1 for 23) beat Kandahar Knights 152 for seven in 20 overs (Brendon McCullum 31, Asghar Afghan 45; Gulbadin Naib 4 for 12) by 13 runs.
