Ben Cutting Effort Goes in Vain as Nangarhar Lost to Paktia

Another game, another stellar show, but this time Ben Cutting ended up on the losing side. The Man of the match for the 4th game of the Afghanistan Premier League starred with both bat and ball, taking 3 for 25 and hitting 39-ball 71 inclusive of 6 sixes, but found wanting from the other end as Paktia Panthers recorded their first win of APL beating Nangarhar Leopards by 21 runs.

Electing to bat first, Paktia rode on in-form captain Mohammad Shahzad’s incredible 53-run knock of 31 balls to reach at 184 for 8 in 20 overs. Cameron Delport and Samiullah Shenwari ably supported their captain with fine innings of 35 and 38 not out, respectively. From Nangarhar’s bowling point of view, Ben Cutting was brilliant scalping 3, which included prized wicket of Shahid Afridi who again failed to impress scooting to 19 of 18 balls. Along with Cutting, talented spinner Zahir Khan kept the run flow in check giving away only 22 in 4 overs dismantling 2 Paktia batters.

Nangarhar’s run chase never got going in the first half of the innings which saw them losing 5 wickets for 51 by the 10th over. Hashmatullah Shahidi was then joined by Skipper Cutting who entertained the crows with some insane hitting, stitching 112 runs partnership for the 6th wicket. Shahidi remained unbeaten on 49, but the asking rate was too high for them to cover up in the last 10 overs.

Brief scores: Paktia Panthers 184 for eight in 20 overs (Mohammad Shahzad 53, Samiullah Shenwari 38 not out; Ben Cutting 3 for 25, Zahir Khan 2 for 22) beat Nangarhar Leopards 163 for six in 20 overs (Hashmatullah Shahidi 49 not out, Ben Cutting 71; Isuru Udana 2 for 28) by 21 runs.
