Balkh Legends Eases Past Kabul Zwalan Even Without Gayle
In what turned out to be an easy chase for the Balkh Legends, Kabul Zwalan couldn’t carry their winning form from the opening APL match. Set a fiddly target off 177, Balkh raced down with 7 balls to spare losing only 2 wickets in the process.
Man-of-the-match, Ryan ten Doeschate was the star of the night, scoring 78 not out of 46 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes. Playing at 3rd position, he was involved in two big partnerships after losing Colin Munro early, for the 2nd wicket with Usman Ghani and unbeaten 89-run stand with veteran Englishman Ravi Bopara. Balkh Legends were without their icon player Chris Gayle, but never looked like missing him as the top order went about their business perfectly seeing off Rashid Khan and targeting other bowlers to stay on top of the chase.
Apart from Captain Rashid Khan’s 1-for-24 off 4 overs, no other bowler looked like threatening the Balkh batsmen. Earlier, Mohammad Nabi’s tight bowling (2 for 20 off 4 overs)upfront did not let the Kabul’s top order settle down and were once 3 down for 32, before the first match’s hero LJ Evans came to their rescue once again scoring 64 of 47. He was involved in a much-needed 96-run stand for sixth-wicket with Rashid Khan who scored a quick-fire 56 off just 27 deliveries that included 5 sixes. Foreign imports Luke Ronchi and Colin Ingram failed to make an impression.
Brief scores: Kabul Zwanan176 for six in 20 overs (Laurie Evans 64, Rashid Khan 56 not out; Mohammad Nabi 2 for 20, Aftab Alam 2 for 36) lost to Balkh Legends 177 for two in 18.5 overs (Usman Ghani 40, Ryan ten Doeschate 78 not out, Ravi Bopara 38 not out; Rashid Khan 1 for 24, Muslim Musa 1 for 38) by eight wickets.
