Ben Cutting’s Five-Fer Helped Nagarhar Defeat Kandahar
In a relatively low-scoring game, Nangarhar Leopards, riding on a super spell from their captain Ben Cutting defeated Kandahar Knights by 6 wickets. Set a target of 140, Leopards chased down the score with 9 balls to spare.
Electing to bat, Kandahar’s openers started well but could not convert into big with icon player Brendon McCullum scoring a brisk 19 off 15 balls with two fours before being dismissed by Cutting. Ben Cutting’s fiery spell never allowed the Kandahar to stitch a big partnership. He ended up taking the first fifer in APL giving away 28 runs off his four overs. After losing four wickets before even reaching the 50-run mark, it was Karim Janat’s run-a-ball 39 and small cameos from O’Brien and Zadran that saw them reach a respectable score.
Najeeb and Charles started the chase dominantly, but once Charles was dismissed in the sixth over Kandahar made a sort of comeback, only to be halted-off by 64-run unbeaten stand between HashmatullahShahidi and Shafiqullah that saw them home without further damage.
Brief scores: Kandahar Knights 139 for nine in 20 overs (Karim Janat39, Kevin O’Brien 22; Ben Cutting 5 for 28) lost to Nangarhar Leopards 142 for four in 18.3 overs (Najeeb Tarakai 32, Jonson Charles 30, Shafiqullah 35 not out, Hashmatullah Shahidi 26 not out; Amit Hamza 1 for 27; Sayed Shirad1 for 30, Waqar Salamkheil 1 for 28, Karim Sadiq 1 for 5) by six wickets.
