Star Players like McCullum, Gayle etc.. included in APL Players Draft
With just over a month to go for the kick-off of the youngest T20 cricket league on the world map, Afghanistan Premier League (APL), the organizers announced that the league will feature some of the great names cricket fields has ever witnessed. Iconic names like Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Brendon McCullum, Kumar Sangakkara, ThisaraParera, MisbahulHaq and more are slated to join the ranks of five competing teams.
The APL will be played from October 5th, 2018 to October 23rd, 2018 in Sharjah with five teams fighting for the coveted prize. These teams are represented by provincial regions of Afghanistan, namely Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia, Nangarhar & Balkh. The players will be picked through a drafting system that is slated to take place in Dubai in the first week of September 2018.
CEO of Afghanistan Cricket Board, Mr. ShafiqullahStanikzai said, “The Afghanistan Cricket Board has achieved in its short stint not only the Full Member status of ICC (International Cricket Council) as well as Test status. We are delighted that today we witness the launch of our own league which will provide global fans and audience an opportunity to watch competitive cricket both at the stadium and on their TV screens worldwide. He also added, “APL is envisioned to become a leading platform for local and international players to showcase their talent, provide a landscape for the development of coaching and playing infrastructures, mentor emerging cricketers, engage with fans all over the world, and provide lucrative opportunities for brands and businesses to connect with the global market”.
The investment partner for APL, Snixer Sports is also actively involved in the entire process. The CEO of Snixer Sports, Ashish Sethi said, “We already have registrations from key international players who already have a reputation in the T20 format. This includes Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Rashid Khan, Brendon McCullum, MisbahulHaq, Kumar Sangakkara, ThisaraPerera, Imran Tahir and Tamim Iqbal. ACB has already produced great cricketing stars like Rashid Khan, MujeebZadran, Mohammad Nabil and with the APL T20 we look forward to creating a platform for cricketing stars to showcase their talent.”
Marching their way into the bigger stage from the domestic Shpageeza Cricket League, Afghan cricket is hoping APL will bring in fortunes, needful exposure for players and provide the right path in their quest for becoming a strong force in cricket fraternity, witnessed over the last few years.
