Fasting Afghanistan Complete the 3-0 Rout of Bangladesh
Fasting throughout in the holy month of Ramadan, putting in their all on the field despite the fasting hardships, Afghanistan showed why they are the most exciting entrant in the Twenty20 World Cricket today. An act of defiance and heroics combined with great athletic skills, that too under the immense pressure of the last ball, Shafiqullah dived to stop a certain boundary sanctioning a run-out, thus enacting the script of a famous series victory right with a thriller for the ages.
It was the passion, the ever-evolving skills and determination of players, who have seen lives not taken for granted back home, that wrote a new chapter in their quest to become a potent cricket faction in the world giving smiles to all those in Afghanistan and world cricket fans.
Chasing 146 should not have been a lot of trouble for the Bangladeshis, especially after the routing they suffered in the first two games, and they must have shown courage to avoid a whitewash. But is not to be. Barring the fightback from the Rahim and Mahmudullah, no one else put their hands up.
Rashid Khan once again showed, be it the glamorous IPL stage or the pride of his nation depending a lot on his shoulders, he is a force to reckon with, putting in a performance worthy of high-class and seizing the prestigious Man-Of-The-Series-Award.
While Bangladesh has always been a team of potential who produce miracles now and then and are yet to rise to the next level (which they should have certainly done by now), Afghanistan is a team that has grabbed every little opportunity they have been provided with clearly validated by their World-Cup qualifying performance, this series win and the entry to the test club.
